With more acumen and dash than Bees, he is deficient in the solid elements of character, and is veiy heartily distrusted, even by his own religionists. He will not lose the battle for want of self- conceit, for he has already
placed it upon record that his friends are certain to make him M.H.R. I don't think they will, and I probably know Mr Napier' 9 political friends better than he does himself. Mr Napier has swallowed the Labour programme — the biggest feat in the swallowing line since the whale gobbled up Jonah — and not all his intellectual and oratorical gifts will atone for that blunder. One half the working men neither believe in that programme nor in Mr Napier, and it is admittedly a mammoth mistake to run two lawyers as ' working men ' candidates. Not within the next three years will Mr Napier be Attorney- General, or even Minister of Justice.
