MERCURY BAY.,
The nomination of members for the County Council took place in the Courthouse on the 31st < )ctober. Messrs Eyre and Clay resign as memberß. A. Peebles, E. Ryan, and N. Gow were nominated. As there were only three nominated, it was unneccessary to have an election. The Kauri Timber Company Mill has been working about four days a week since the strike. A change is needed, or else a good many men will be leaving, and a more robust and energetic lot of men is hard to be found. The fortnightly dance was held on the Is* November, and was largely attended. The fair sex outnumbered the males. W. McCarthy officiated as M.C , while Mr Ansenne supplied the music. There is every likelihood of our having some good races here at Christmas. A committee has been formed. I expect to see a good programme out soon. A trio is going to lead three fair brides to the hymeneal altar at Christmas. Happy be their bridal day. The good old Scotchman went in amoiig a mob of ferocious cattle to fetch out Fannies hat. May he reap his reward hereafter. Lucy prides the handkerchief Alf gave her. Look out, old boy, or you will be in hot water. On dit the buffet proprietor is away looking for a wife. May he be successful.
