TE AWAMUTU
On Wednesday evening, the Wesleyan body gave a concert and dance, in aid of the Sunday-school library, at Te Rahu School. The concert passed off in the moat satisfactory manner, after which the audience did justice to the good things provided by the promoters. Dancing was kept up till the small hours, at the conclusion of which Mr fCirk proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the ladies who were so energetic in getting it up. Miss Kirk acted as M.C. throughout the evening. Why wasn't the barmaid at the rink on Tuesday night ? Too bad of her to keep the Eangioahia masher from going. The coal merchant's son should not cast sheep's eyes at Clara at the rink. If he does, Joe will go for him. What takes Hughie past the solicitor's gate every rink nigkt ? Very kind of Dudley to milk the cow and drive the ducks to water, at the Commercial. The elite turned out galore, en route for Alexandra, on Friday night. Maggie, Willie, and George the storekeeper. Who were the two girls who waded through the water to go to the rink on Tuesday night ? Very good of Ted to see them home. Who were the girls trying to mash the Old Lion the other night ? It is a hopeless case, girls, so don't try it again. Charlie says they are trying hard to tie him up, but he is not ready just yet awhile. Willie says his girl does not ap ..rove of rinking, besides he is saving the sixpences now. One of the twin sisters gave Jimmy, of the factory, a time of it at the rink. He enjoyed it, judging from looks. It is to be hoped Charlie won't be jealous. It's a case with Maggie and Charlie. He did not seem to miss the gay and giddy belle at the Alexandra dance on Friday. What was the matter with Willie. He looked aick. The dark sisters have caught him at last. The entertainment at Alexandra was a grea f . success. Mr Cbapoll's acting was as good as mwny professionals. Miss M. Bowden was also all there in her part. The operetta was a spleu'lid success. Mrs Allan's singing and acting wore just charming and delighted everyone. Miss Bowden as the ' Widdy ' was alßo excellent. Mr E. Aubin might have been appreciated a little more if he had occasionally been in tune. It was simply excruciating. The dance was rather slow owing to the scarcity of ladies, but the beaux made up for it.
