A young city clerk who felt inclined for a trip to the country, called upon a friend. "Harry, my dear boy," saicl he, "I'm offfcr my holiday, and I find I'm a trifle short, lend me a fiver, will you ?" Harry, after a pause, which apparently inoluded a mental examination of his finanoial arrangements : " Well— Phil— to tell, you the truth— l do not feel— disposed — at present — to make any —permanent investments."
A tin- whistle has been found in the inside o* an ox. This must be the instrument on which was played " the tune the old cow died of."
Mr Strode Hall hag visited the Mai Cussa and Wasu Cussa rivers in New Guinea and has written , a report about them. Judging by the names of the rivers, those naughty navigators who are profuse in their "cuss " vocabulary have been there before Mr Hall strode into that locality.
