WAVERLEY.
The Cavalry Ball, which was looked for by all ball-efoers, i 8 now a thing of the past. It was a brilliant success, and everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly. The Major, Captain and Lieutenants were kept extremely busy, and they deserve great praise for the manner in which they carried out all arrangements. Dancing commenced at 9.30 and was kept up with animation till 6 a.m. All the ladies looked so oharminef that it was impossible to choose a belle. H.C. aud Ei.T. were piling it on as usual. G.G. was present keeping guard over A.B. N.T. was trying to mash several of the girls, but did not succeed. H.Mc.K., from Waitotara, was doing the heavy with Miss D. Captain J. enjoys dancing with the girls. G.M. and B.D. were piling on the a?ony. The Wairoa Light Horse held a tournament en Saturday, when a great many spectators were present, although the weather was unsettled. The firing was not so good as expected, probably owing to the previous night's dissipation. After the shooting contest, two horse races were run, which terminated the day's sports.
