"Off to Paris Exhibition."
We regret to learn that some remarks which appeared under the above heading have been misconstrued in an offensive light. The paragraph alluded playfully to Aucklanders who, prior to leaving for Paris, were receiving instruction in the French language from Mr C. D. Whitcombe, (the most proficient teacher in Auckland), and it has been assumed in some quarters that the information must have emanated fiom Mr Whitcombe. As such an impression may tend to deter pupils from joining Mr Whitcombe's classes, we wish to state most emphatically that the paragraph in question was not supplied by Mr Whitcombe, either directly or indirectly, nor was it sent us by any member of his class. It was simply an item of society gossip, which some people thought amusing, and was certainly not intended to convey the meaning placed upon it, much less to annoy Mr Whitcombe or injure him ia bis business.
