'CYCLING NOTES.

—Hooper, the 'cyclist, is down with typhoid fever, — Selby has been trying to break the road record from Auckland to Mercer. He will have some hard riding 1 to do to beat Clarke's record. — W. TT* Langdown won the five mile championship of New Zealand at Dunedin the other day. The time has not yet come to hand. — Christ church is truly the 'cyclist's paradise. There are no less than four hicvcle race meetings this month io mid avomul Cliristohurch. — 'Cyclists were very niu3n disgusted with the state of the track for the three-mile race at Potter's Paddock on Saturday. Lecky broke his racer, while Clarke and Howard got severe- spills. — Adams, the gymnast, has joined the A. A. A. and C. Club, and, beside going for several of the running 1 events, will probably start for the one-mile maiden bicycle race at the sports on April the 6th. — As the A.A.A. and C. Club has given leave for its members to run in the Rowing Association's sports at Devonport on the 23rd March, there should be large fields in for the 'cycling events. — It is a pity that the three-mile race at the Carter's Picnic was not better patronised ; indeed had it not been for the efforts of one or two of the club officers, the race would have fallen through. This would have been a great pity, as there are quite few enough bicycle races in the year. —It is a pity the handicappers for wheel events do not use at least a little thought in making their handicaps. For instance, note the treatment of Lecky in the three-mile race on Saturday. In the three mile race in November last he got 130 yards from Clarke, and failed to get near the finish ; and instead of giving him more this time, he is actually brought back to 50 yards from scratch. This is only one instance, and many equally stupid mistakes could be pointed out in the bicycle handicapping.

— Dick Jeffries is back from the Sounds excursion, and has started training for his onemile race with Ifwerson. He is being trained by O'Brien, and is going very well.
