As they began to rise the hill Minstrel Boy under his light weight sailed pascthe leaders on the outside and settling clown showed the way along by the half-mile post, the pace being a cracker, but Steel Arrow was going well in second place next the rails. Here Dilisk joined the latter while Vespasia immediately appeared in fourth position on the outside. Eecall, too, showed a bold front, but it was only an expiring effort, and then came Carylon, followed by Plutarch and Esperance Steel Arrow shot his bolt at the three furlongs, where Minstrel Boy was leading a, length and Carlyon going into second place followed the hurdle-racer into the straight, his nearest attendants being Sleel Arrow, Dilisk, Vespasia, and Plutarch, with Esptrance near the rails, and at the head of the others were Lamond, Centaur and T\?.riiandez. When well in the straight Cariyon drew well up to Minstrel Boy, who immedi'iitul.y began to tire, and Steel Arrow dying out alter a short effort Esperance fell into his place, waited on by Plutarch, Vespasia and Fernando- 1 ;. Carlyon settled Minstrel Boy at the distance when Espevance throw out a storng challenge, but the fu'3t-named was equal to the occasion. Esperance beat Minstrel by a length and a half for second place, and Lamond was a good fourth, attended in order by Dilisk, Centuar, Fernandez, Willeroo, Plutarch and Steel Arrow, while First Game and .Bona Vista followed the main body home, and Industry tailed off.
