— Volunteer battalions throughout Mew Zealand have received their death blow. —Lieut. Shenrilt, formerly of the City Guards, is now located over in Melbourne. —Captain Mann, of H.M.S. Rapid now in Harbour, is to assume command of the Victoria Navy. —During the Tasmanian Bifle meeting an Intercolonial Congress will be held at which all the colonies are expected to be represented. — A few evenings ago, a glove fight took place in the Parnell Hall between J. Burke and Dore, of Onehunga. The set-to was a very tame affair, the people being disgusted with the exhibition. Burke won easily. —Billy Murphy, the champion lightweight of New Zealand, arrived in Dunedin on Dec. 25th by the Manapouri. He is en route to 'Frisco, but before leaving Dunedin he intends trying conclusions with Williams of that city if a match can be arranged. — Private Rosenthal, of the Honourable Artillery Company, has been for several years champion of the North London Club. He has now managed to make the extraordinary score of 100 points out of a possible 105, with the Martini rifle, by 34 points at 209 yards, and 33's at 500 and 600. —A grand score was made at the North London Butts a few weeks ago. Sergeant Wood, of the Hon. Artillery Company, was shooting there and made 100 points out of a possible 105. The ranges were 200, 500, and 600 yards, and the number of rounds, of course, seven at each, His scores were 32 at 200 yds, the maximum 35 at 500 yds, and 33 at 600 yds. — Following on the success of the Irish teams both in Sydney and Melbourne, Major Strong has determined on a new move. It is to j form in New South Wales a Hibernian club on the lines of the c Irish twenty.' It will be open j to Irishmen throughout the colony ; and Major Strong will shortly be at the head of a team that will take a terrible lot of beating. Mr C.
