AN ONEHUNGA " NOVEL."
A newly-elected member of the Onehunga Licensing Bench got upon his legs the other night at the local Templar Hall to respond to the toast of his health, feelingly proposed by an admiring fellow-townsman. The object of all the well-merited eulogy, who of course felt that it was the proudest moment of his life, had no sooner opened hig mouth, however, than he put his foot in it " Ladies and gentlemen," commenced the newly- fledged licensing comtmtteeman, " I assure you that I am a novel at this kind of business." The assembled company smiled audibly, and the man sitting next to him gave the orator's coattails a violent tug, while he whispered loud enough to be heard down the room, " Novice, man, novice.' I Thus encouraged, the orator urged again upon his wild career. If he was indeed a " novel," I fear he proved but an uninteresting one.
