Ball gowns for young girls are made in spangled tulle, which looks" as if the material had been covered with dew. Flounces are confined to flat folds, tucks, braiding, and, above all, to the various new laces of wool, silk, thread, and tinsel that are laid flat on the si'.lcs and front breadths of the skirt. For evening dresses for little girls, plain velvet or plush, with lace at the neck and sleeves, made quite plain would be suitable. Flowers are a great feature in the brightening lip of rooms, and for those who live in the country, there is seldom a time of year when some little bits of colour cannot be found in the gardens and hedgerows. The most dainty petticoats of pale coloured | surah, plain or quilted, with a profusion of gathered lace, are now worn under smart evening gowns by fastidious cleyankti. In many cases they match the di-ess, but economical minds content themselves with a white, a black, or a red. Have I ever spoken to you of the latest improvements for umbrellas? A few of them are made with removable ends and handles for easy packing — a real boon to travellers, providing the screws hold sufficiently fast to resist the wind and hard wear. For grown girls, a charming evening dress is a white tilk bodice and skirt, covered with some of the cream lace so much used.
