TO CORRESPONDENTS
Four Years in Kockx Mountains.— Too much for U3. GI-. H. E.— You are the best judge re the 'Wild Australian Rose.' Mr Webbe, of Oak House, Ilobson-street, would give you all the desired information. Write to him. Helensville. — G-lad to enrol you as a regular contributor. Short humourous items respecting Uelensville doings always acceptable ; the lesi personal the more welcome. It is quite possible to be funny without being coarse or offensive.
iKQuiKEit writes. — Would the editor of the Ob sekyeb & Free Lance be kind enough toanswer the following queries ? — Should a wife put ' Esq. ' on her husband's letters when writing to him, or only 'Mr ?' Should a lady, when she culls on a widow, leave her own and her husband's, or only her own card ? Could you give me the addresses of two or three libraries in this city ? Excuse my troubling you, but being a new comer, I have purchased one or two guide books and failed to find any reference to libraries, and I am anxious to join one. [1 The title of Esquire was at one time borne only by persons who had a right to it ; nowadays everybody is dubbed 'Esq.' 'A wife ' may use her own discretion as to whether she uses it or not when addressing her husband. 2. Etiquette demands that on a lady's first visit to a widow, the visitor should leave one of her own cards and one of her husband's. If there are any young ladies in the family of the Jady visited, the visitor should turn down the corner of her own card. 3. There are several good subscription libraries in Auckland. Lennox's, Queen-street, is a first-rate one, Upton's, Queen-street ; and then there is the ' Fxchange,' corner of Durham and Queen-sts., and the Young Men's Christian Association possesses a capital library.]
