A DISPENSING CHEMIST WHO DISPENSED WITH PRECAUTION.

A chemist, whose place of business is situated in one of Auckland's most charming suburbs, was given a prescription to make up the other day. It was for a patient lying dangerously ill. The prescription was not an ordinary one, and required the most careful attention. On this account, probably, the chemist handed it over to his daughter, a young lady whose knowledge of drugs is not so extensive as lier knowledge of bonnets. She had, in makin^up the mixture, to handle certain deadly poisons, and contrived to mix in onefifth more of one particular poison than was prescribed. The effect on the unfortunate patient was marked ; the stuff nearly killed him, weak and ill as he was (and still is). Chemists are supposed to pass an examination before they are considered competent to dispense prescriptions. I have yet to learn that their certificates of competency are transferable to their, daughters.
