GOD BLESS THE LAND WE LOVE SO WELL.

(Written for the " Observer.")

God bless the land we love so well, And guard the homes that line it shores '.The homes within the forest dell, Or where the mountain torrent roars.

Where'er the hoary mountains stand, Where'er the rivers proudly flow, .Do Thou protect each toiling band, And on each home thy care bestow.

(Let savage tribes assail no more The peaceful scenes where now we roam ; The city nestling by the shore — The settler's solitary home.

And should a foreign foeman dare Amid those hallowed scenes to roye, A line of steel shall meet him there, To guard the homes and hearts we love 'God bless the Queen, and bless the land Where sleep our fathers o'er the sea ; But— O, Zealandia ! we hand Our sons and daughters o'er to thee.

•God bless the land we love so well — Her fruitful Tales and rugged coasts ; And may her sons and daughters dwell 'Neath Thy protection, Lord of Hosts ! E. S. Husband
