OBSERVER ART UNION.

The success attending the previous prize-draw-ing in connection with the Observes has induced the proprietor to arrange an Art Union consisting of twenty-four choice Pictures, handsomely framed, to be disposed of in strict accordance with the Act, and by permission of the Government. Each copy of the Obsevee, commencing October 6th, will contain a coupon, ten of which (cut from one issue or consecutive issues) will form a set entitling- the holder to ten chances in the drawing, each coupon being numbered in rotation on receipt at the office. One coupon will be of no use without the other nine, and each coupon must be carefully cut out, filled up in accordance with instructions, and forwarded as directed herewith, on or before Monday, December 24th, 1883. the drawing taking place at 8 o'clock on the evening of that day, at the Observer office, in presence of an influential committee. ' In addition to the Works of Art, in accordance with our usual Christmas custom, there will be absolutely given away to the holders of certain numbers which will hereafter be announced, Gold and Silver Watches, Diamond Rings, Cabinetware, Fancy (roods, Jewellery, &c, of local manufacture. Upwards of 150 sets of coupons in the last Art Union came to hand too late for the drawing, though a clear week-was allowed between the completion of the requisite number of coupons and the timo of drawing. Some of the coujions have been sent from distant Southern districts — as far as Invercargill — and remote districts in the North ; and as it is possible that there has uot been sufficient time for these late letters to reach the office before the drawing, they will be allowed to count for the next Art Union.
