EROM THE NEW IE ALAND HERALD, Auckland, July 4th, 1882 : — " A branch of the Melbourne Goldsmiths' Hall Com" pany has been opened during the past week in the Theatre Royal block of buildings, Qneen-street, in the premises formerly occupied by Mr Bloom. Some 1 £30,000 worth of diamond jewellery, watches, clocks, and silver plate are displayed in the shop, and the wellstocked windows are a great attraction to the passersby, who congregate in groups to feast their eyes on the splendid exhibition. The articles of jewellery consist of every possible variety — hracelets, lockets, chains, pendants, earrings — and are finished in tho first style of art, the gold heing from 15 to" 18 carat standard. Among the diamond jewellery is a fac aim He of the diamond bracelet presented to Miss Annis Montague at Brisbane, and which was made by the Goldsmiths' Hall Company, the diamonds, eleven in number, being the best Brazilian. The silver plate ware is also of a most artistic character, and the designs extremely chaste. There is also a large quantity of gold and silver English j lever watches b. Rotheram, Settle Brothers, Erhardt, anu others, and Waltham watches from tlie exhibit out of the Melbourne Exhibition. In the watch line, the Company have a speciality known as the stem-winding Waterbury watch. There are also several hundred clocks, among them the "electric clock." The establishment, of which Mr Flegeltaub is the manager, is only open for two weeks more. The Melbourne Goldsmiths' Hall sent down the goods to Christchurch, on account of the Christchurch Exhibition, and after doing a fair business there the goods were removed to Auckland, where a branch is opened, and an excellent business doing. The Company's jewellery is all of Colonial manufacture, about sixty hands being employed in the establishment, many of them being highly paid and skilled workmen, both in the goldsmiths' and silversmiths' art, and as designers.
