[Announcements and contributions for iJiis column are ■invited.'] Mr Wickens' invitation party enjoyed themselves very much at Waiwera. Mr G-amble entertained a number of friends at a dinner party on the evening of the 4th of Ju-ly. Mrs W. F. Hull's dance went of very well. The officers of the Nelson were well represented. Mrs J. M. Clark gives another dance on Monday evening next at "the Towers." Officers of both men-of-war are invited. A very pleasant evening w;as spent at Miss F. "Walker's residence, C'ollingwood-street, Ponsonby, on Thursday last. The hostess was the belle of the evening. The forthcoming Bachelors' Ball will probably be rendered attractive by the presence of the officers of the German man-of-war, to whom inxitations will bo issued. Several mothers of marriageable daughters are anxiousiy relying on the present festivities in the hope that it will bring to a head certain delicate negotiations. Mr and Mrs E. Isaacs gave a ball at their residence, Buona Vista, on Tuesday evening, which was attended by upwards of eighty of the elite of the city and suburbs. H.M.S. Nelson and H.I.G-.M. Carola were well represented. The tout ensemble was very good, many of the ladies dresses being rery striking. The affair was a thorough success. For the special benefit of our lady subscribers, we have ascertained that the committee of the forthcoming Bachelors' Ball consist of Messrs Hean, Burton, C. A. Harris, Horton, Coates, Browning, Ludlow, Wickens, Nathan, Hammer, O'Sullivan, E. T. Dufaur, Isaacs, Mowbray, Hose, Pollen, Earl, Williamson, Severn, Jackson, Roach and Shera, and ona or two others whose names liave not reached us. The Bachelors' Ball at Raglan was well attended, and great credit is due to the stewards, as well as to Mr Wylie, the caterer. The following ladies were present : — Misses A. and E. Powell, Mis 3 Moon (Waitetuna), Misses A. and E. Cogswell (Kirikiri), Mrs J. W. Graham, Miss Johnston, Mrs Thos. Wilson (Earikiri), Miss Crraham, Misses J. and L. Wilson, Mrs Bulford, Miss Swarm, Mrs Horsey. Dancing was kept up till 6.30 next morning, when three cheers were given for the bactelor3. A concert was held at the Public Hall, Helons■ville on Wednesday, June 28th,the proceeds going towards paying off the debt on the organ in the English Church. There was a large audience, the hall being full. Mr C. M. Burton presided. The performei'3 were few in number, but good in quality. The gentlemen were Mr Beart, Mr Bourcher, Mr Stanton, Mr Griffiths, Mr Naughton, and Mr Hjorth. The lady, for there was only one, was Miss Bacon. It would be almost invidious to particularise where all did well. Every one was pleased to see Mr Beart and Mr Stanton, old Helensville men, back again, though for one evening only. Miss Bacon's performance -was unexceptionally good. There was a dance afterwards, to which a large proportion of the company remained. The Bachelors' Ball at Dairy Flat was very successful, notwithstanding the bad state of the roads. About 80 of the settlers and their wives and daughters were present. The music was very Among' the dresses most noticeable may be mentioned the following : — Miss Inglis, black, trimmed with white lace, and pale green ; Miss Board looked very neat in black ; the Misses Wilson wore prune and white, with grey and black trimmings ; Miss Dodd, black, with cardinal sash and gold ornaments ; Miss O'Neill, black, with pale blue trimmings ; Mrs Martin, fawn, •with chocolate trimmings and gold ornameuts ; Mrs H. Inglis, black, with gold ornaments ; Miss Blucher, olive-green ; Miss Foley, black, with -white draperies. The dancers kept .up the festivities until dawn, when they wended their home- . ward way, all being gratified with the creditable > Jjiaiiagement of the stewards. '?*'j The Otahuhu Foresters celebrated their first anniversary by a select ball on Thursday, June 29th, 1882. The hall was gaily decorated with evergreens, and presented a rery pleasing aspect. for the inner man- were in abundance and gave great satisfaction. The attendance . excellent, music. Mr F. Christmas acted in his usual capacity as M.C. to the satisfaction of all. The following are. some of the most conspicuous dresses : — Miss Smith, pale blue sateen-, with cream lace (the belle of the evening); Miss O'Connell, pink sateen with white muslin ; Miss Sykes, grey cashmere, trimmed with black velvet ; Miss Kyle, white sateen; Miss A. Kyle, white muslin top, and blue cashmere skirt ; Miss Hoe, cream top, and cardinal skirt ; Miss A. O'Keefe, black velvet trimmed with tarry silk ; Miss Pyke, black cashmere ; Miss McGrath, black lustre trimmed with pink ribbon ; Miss Wardell, black merino, with cardinal bows ; Miss A. Wardell, black silk trimmed with velvet; Miss Clarke, black grenadine top, with brown sateen skirt ; Miss Brennan, navy blue sateen with flowers; Miss Shepperd, black velvet, with tartan sash ; Mrs Cobine, fawn silk ; Mrs Keesing black silk ; Mrs Lloyd, black Brussels cord, with silver jewellery. Miss MeAllen : Claret - coloured costume, prettily made ; princess bonnet of claret-coloured plush. Mrs Greenwood : Costume of crimson (seemingly her favourite colour) silk ; bonnet with feathers of same bright hue. ' Miss Mabel ITairburn : White cashmere costume ; toque of the same, which would have looked extremely well had the weather been warmer. A lady with Mrs Knight, whoso name we do not know : A perfect-fitting brown ulster of Newmarket shape, red skirt just showing beneath; Princess bonnet of cream straw, with Alsace bow of black velvet.
STREET DRESSES. Miss Ohurton : Grey dress and jacket ; grej fur hat. Miss Groldsbro' : Mvrtle-grcen costume ; black hat. Mrs Harrington : Dress and dolman of black silk ; peacock feather bonnet. Mrs Wilkie (of Parnell) : Black cashmere dress; seal jacket ; most becoming bonnet of black lace and jet. Mrs Sharland : Brown cashmere ; fawn jacket; pretty toque of brown plush, ornamented with bird of brown plumage. Mrs F. Ireland : Embroidered dress of black cashmere ; dolman of black Sicilienne black feather, and jet bonnet. Miss Brookfleld : Pretty costume of black nun's veiling, with broche sash ; black hat, with small white flowers.
STREET DRESSES, NAPIER. Mrs Coleman : Black figured moire satin polonaise ; black velvet skirfc. Miss Potts : Black velvet skirt ; white flannel polonaise ; black hat. Mios Moore wears a handsome rich dark maroon cashmere, trimmed satin ; blask princess bonnet, trimmed to match. Miss Addie Bell wears a stj-lish dress of mustard-coloured carmelite cloth, but it is a Irving colour.
