The graceful manner in which Mrs Captain Crawford managed that high-spirited horse, Maid of the Mill when sweeping through. Kamo, accompanied by a cavalcade of friends, was greatly admired. The captain himself appears to ride very lightly. Seamen, as a rule, ride well, but there are exceptions to all rules. Mr Johnstone, the worthy chief mate of the s.s. Argyle, certainly would have looked more comfortable astride the main gaff than he did across his horse when escorting Miss A. on the road to the Falls. Have some of the young ladies of Whangarei or Kamo being jilting the young and handsome butcher that makes him declare that " there is more affectation than affection about them." Oh, cruel fair ones ! The distinguished tenor of the Kamo Minstrel Troupe is recommended to go to Auckland and take some lessons under Mr Grordon G-ooch. On the last occasion, some seagulls that were quietly sunning themselves in the river flew away with a screecli A good story comes from the Waipu quarter, a resident of which had for some time been knocking about Auckland, and having learned the most of the back ways to the hotels, had got so accustomed to shouting that on his return when lie stepped into the telegraph office to forward a telegram, on laying down his shilling in payment for same, he for the moment forgot himself and astonished the telegraphist by saying to him " What will you have ?"
