The Sydney correspondent of a
Melbourne paper, in referring to what he considers the unnecessarytprecaiitions taken to prevent the spread of small-pox in the metropolis of New South Wales, says, "The city is remarkably clean." If this statement is correct, what a wonderful improvement must have been made in the condition of Sydney during the last year. Perhaps the reader may never have had occasion to go into any of the back slums of the city. It is fortunate for his olfactory nerves, as well as for his veracity if he has not.
