We have told this story in a jocular strain, but not with any desire to detract from the execrable meanness of X.'s action. Little V. made a mistake in giving him even 7s. 6d. The proper price for the loan "of a, Avig (for a night) from a London costnmer is Is. Od., and to not a. farthing more was K. entitled. His partner, we are told, was utterly disgusted with the affair, and has done his best to hush it up ; but in his righteous wrath Y. told so many people that it was all over the town directly.
