4. The contents of a society paper necessarily depend greatly on the character of the place where it is published. If the town-talk is of an elevated kind, dealing principally with art, music, philosophy, {esthetics, etc., then your paper must perforce be filled with disquisitions on these subjects. If, however, the residents are of the " earth earthy," loving gossip of the most trivial kind, liking to know that so-and-so has had a party, and that somebody else is going to be married, or buried, or ruined, then these frivolities, however contemptible they may appear to great minds, must be written down.
