An open sailing boat sweepstake's race will probably take place this afternoon. The judge in the sweepstake's race last Saturday, very properly disallowed the protest against the Imp, for alleged shifting of ballast. The one cricket match of the Bay of Plenty* Tauranga v. Opotiki, has been arranged for the 23rd inst. This date, however, is open to alteration. The open sailing boat Imp (Perrott) and Gip (Holmes), will sail a anatch for £5 a side this (Saturday) afternoon. The Gip is considerably larger than her opponent, but the latter is, nevertheless, the favourite. Mr. Swailes, of Ponsonby, the owner of the well-known sailing boat Kyniph, is building a sixteen, foot sailing boat. She will sail in a match with Perrott's, (Imp), and will also compete at tho Ponsonby Regatta. The yacht Glitter, purchased at auction on Wednesday by Mr. Greonwood for £.35, was a great bargain. She was only launched a few months' ago, and was considered to be a very fast sailer. Her value is estimated at £80 or £90. A match will probably be arranged between Stephenson's sailing boat Imp, and Halstead's Hattie May. The weather last Saturday was, unfortunately, too light for the latter, and she had no show. Her chances are said to be good in a long beat, with a stiff breeze. Mr. M. Fairs has had a three ton yacht, named the Sybil, built by Messrs. Hewson and Melville, of Mechanic's Bay. She is a very pretty little craft, and. she is said to sail remarkably well. It is the intention of her owner to enter her for the race under six tons at the approaching regatta. The only noticeable feature in the cricket match between Waitoa and Hamilton, was a new departure in the way of fielding, by one of the former team, who when he saw the ball coming towards him; first turned a somersault and stopped it. This waa repeated several times, and nearly always successfully.
