Hnw have the mighty fallen. Twelve years ago Dr. Wall is conducted a crusade against those Presbyterian Churches in Auckland which permitted such innovations as hymn-books and instrumental music. He had a number of admirers and followers, and the display of a little energy resulted in the erection of the IN ewton Kirk. After a time the Doctor entered the political arena, and his intercourse with "rogues and trimmers " in the House of Representatives no doubt ■■ wore oft" the rough corners of his prejudices. He permitted the introduction of a. harmonium into the kirk, and for a time all went pleasantly. Then lie entered into negotiations for the disposal of the kirk to the Roman Catholics, and the last chapter to this interesting history is supplied by the tact that the reverend doctor formed one of the congregation at St. James' Church last Sunday morning. Apparently the "kist o 1 wliustles " has been rendered less objectionable in his sight, and the use of the hymnal is no longer a sacrilege in his eyes. The doctor is improving !
