This process was first disdiscovcred by Mr. Hem, a popular photographer in Boston, Mass, U.S.A., and has been practised by me since 1861. ' Although, this method of beautifying photographs is attended with nrach careful manipulation, the result is very satisfactory and pleasing, as well as beneficial, inasmuch as it preserves the picture from fading and spotting by exposure to afar.
