Mr. Charles Craig is an actor who, "by right, should belong to a first-class Parisian Company. Like the members of the famous Comedie Francaise, betakes as much pains with a small part as with one of sixty sides. His make-up and acting during the first few nights of " Pinafore " were both wonderful ; in fact the Bosun, usually a nonentity, became quite a prominent character. The newspaper critics, anxious to find something to puff in a veiy poor performance, praised Mr. Craig's efforts, and complimented him on making a hit. Strange to say this too annoyed Lingard, and he said something which had the effect of making Mr. Craig wholly relax Ms efforts for a couple of nights. Isn't it melancholy that a clever man like Lingard should be so small minded 2
