Dominion’s Meat Shipments.

New Zealand’s meat shipments to the United Kingdom for the month of April were as follows: Chilled beef 25,444 qrs., frozen beef 13,627 qrs., mutton 137,745 carcasses, lamb 989,330 carcasses, pork 29,651 carcasses, boneless beef 33,469 bags. Wheat Fields. Some remarkable wheat yields, considering the season, have been produced on the heavy land in the Marlborough district. The early part of the season was very dry, and this is many cases caused a drop in yield. However, at Stoney Creek, a yield of 81 bushels of Cross 7 was obtained, while others of 78 and 72 showed that this performance was not a freak. Generally speaking the average this year is high—on the heavy land about 40 bushels to 45 bushels. Farmers’ Union Policy. Holding that the Farmers’ Union was no longer non-political, Mr. F. E. Jansen announced at the annual meeting of the Wairarapa provincial executive of the union that he had retired from the chairmanship of the Featlierston branch. He would have thought that all farmers would, lor their own benefit, nave joined the local Milk Recording Society. The farmers disliked filling up forms, and so they must make them as simple as possible, having due regard to preserving economy. It was true, however, that Party politics had crept into the union to such an extent that it was no longer non-political, Mr. Jansen said, and the organisation, in his opinion, was not. working in the best interests of the farmers.
