CLOSE SEASON.

OPOSSUM TRAPPING

I; GOVERNMENT’S DECISION.

•i .... DEPRESSION IN’ FUR TRADE.

[By Teiegrapn.—press Association] WELLINGTON, April 27.

- A close season for .the trapping of opossums has been decided for this year with effect throughout the Dominion. This decision of the Government is the outcome of the present depression in the fur trade, there being little or no sale for skins in overseas markets.

Tlie Minister for Internal Affairs, Mr W. E. Parry, stated that an additional reason for the closing of the season was that with no market for • skins there would be the certain failure of trappers to record their license fees and expenses if an open season was granted.
