WINCHESTER ACCIDENT. OPENING COMMENCED. 12 WITNESSES TO BE HEARD. [By Telegraph.—Press Association] ASHBURTON, April 11. The Departmental inquiry into tho runaway train accident at Winchester on Friday was opened in camera by a board which comprises: Messrs. Lusty, assistant-chief engineer, Wellington, chaidman; Clarke, district traffic manager, Dunedin; Binstead, locomotive engineer, Christchurch; and Ramsay, guard, Dunedin.

The hearing of about a dozen witnesses is expected to occupy two days. Tlie result will be announced by the general manager or the Minister.
