PRICES TOO HIGH.
STATE HOUSE TENDERS.
NEGOTIATIONS BEING MADE.
MORE HOUSES FOR THAMES. Speaking at the opening of the Thames Stato houses yesterday, Mr. J. Thorn, M.P., intimated that he had received advice from Mr. J. A. Lee, Parliamentary Secretary for Housing, with regard to the erection of further State houses in Thames. In reply to a communication. Mr. Lee had stated, said Mr. Thorn, that the Department had recently called tenders for an additional ten houses at Thames, but owing to the prices received being too high, none had been accepted. At present negotiations were in progress with the tenderers, and as soon as satisfaction had been reached, construction would be nut in hand.
Mr. Thorn stated that enough land had been bought in Paeroa to construct 2") houses, and negotiations were in progress for the purchase of land for ten State houses in Vfaihi.
