OBITUARY.

MR. WILLIAM A. CAMPBELL. A well-known and widely-respected resident of the Thames district passed away this morning in the person of Mr. William A. Campbell, of Tararu, at the age of 63 years. Mr. Campbell was born in Waiotahi Valley, and after his schooling took up mining, an occupation he followed over a period of 3o years. He saw service in the Talisman Mine at Karangahake, the Martha, Waihi and tlio Sylvia Mines. Thames, during that period.

In his youth Mr. Campbell took a keen interest in sport, his main leaning being to athletics, in which realm he competed successfully. The arduous nature of his work underground left its mark on Mr. Campbell, and of late years he suffered from miners' phthisis, but bore the illness with great fortitude. A hobby with Mr. Campbell whs model-making of sailing ships and painting. Many line examples of seagoing stalwarts were the subject of Mr. Campbell's brush. Deceased is survived by three sisters, Mrs. H. Kcrby (Thames), Mrs. V. Brown (Waihi), and Mrs. G. Tetley (Katikati) and three brothers, Mr. Alex. Campbell, Mr. Arch. Campbell, and Mr. C. Campbell, all of Thames. also four daughters, Misses G. (lampbell, L. Campbell, A. Campbell, of Thames, and R. Campbell, of Auckland, and Messrs. C. Campbell (Arapuni), A. Campbell and Master B. Campbell (Thames).
