A WONDER SPOT.
MT. COOK DISTRICT. MOST FASCINATING PLACE. ME. SEMPLE'S OPINION. After viewing the Southern Alps from tho air and travelling by road from the Hermitage to Mount Cook, Mr. R. .Semplo, Minister for Public Works, formed a conAdction that Mount Cookis one of the most fascinating place* he has ever seen or visited.
"It is one of the Avoiider spots *f New Zealand, a Aveird and altogether amazing country," he said on his return to the city. The sight of glaciers. Avith a recorded depth of 1250 ft and covered Avith shingle drifts from the surrounding mountains, thrills Mr. Semplc, who Avas bewildered by the immensity of the crevasses. He had an intriguing feAV minutes timing the traA-el of boulders hurled from t.hf* top- of one ereA'asse, tho rocks talcing seven seconds to reach the bottom. In every sense, he said, Mount Cook Avas really anamazing place.
