WOMEN AT RACES.
QUESTION OF LIQUOR
ACTION IN SOUTH. CONDITIONS TO BE ENFORCED. Women’s privileges in obtaining refreshment at licensed booths at the race meetings of the Forbiiry Park i.rotting Club were discussed at a meeting of the club executive last week, when advic was received that the Dunedin Licensing Committee had taken steps to enforce the condition prohibiting the supply of liquor to women and their presence in licensed booths. .It was decided to ask the Licensing Committee to receive a deputation from the club.
The solicitors for the licensee of the booths at Forbury Park wrote advising that his application for a provisional license for four booths had been refused, the license being granted for three booths only. The licensee’s attention had also been drawn to the condition of his license prohibiting the supply of liquor to women and their presence in [lie booth. The license had attached to it t fie condition “that- no women were to be supplied with liquor from booths nor allowed therein.” As a prosecution would probably follow any breach of this condition, the club was-asked to do everything possible to assist the licensee.
