THE "GUTTER PRESS.”

STUPID RADIO ATTACK. BY ECONOMIC ADVISEE. TO DOMINION GOVERNMENT. The current Listener reveals a broadcast to the Empire which docs no credit to the man who gave it (states the News Chronicle). The speaker was Dr. W. B. Sutch, economic adviser to the New Zealand Government, and he was allowed to include all London newspapers in the sleeping condemnation: “I feel that the London press is to a surprising degree a gutter press." That is a matter of opinion, and Dr. Batch’s opinion is worth very little. But he went on to assert as a fact, “Politics are sometimes included if there is space for them—and if they can be made to fit in with the views of the owners or large advertisers." The interested reader can easily prove, in th ease of the News Chronicle at least, how wanton is this accusation. Let him add up the columns in this issue dealing with politics and then rack his brains to find- any connection with the advertising columns.
