TRANSPORT MATTERS.
SITTING AT THAMES. GOODS SERVICES LICENSES. A IMPLICATIONS GRANTED. A witting of the No. 1 Licensing Authority was held at the Miners 7 "Union Hall to-day, Mr. E. J. Phclan, chairman, presiding. There 'A as a large number of new applications for goods services, amendments to existing licenses and transfers considered. When "the Authority adjourned for lunch, the following applications had been granted':— New Licenses. Goods sctyices: Short Bros., Paeroa; G. A. Colville, Whitianga; E. Kenny, Thames; C. Kennedy, Wailu; A. Zberg, Whakatiwai; T. McCollum, Thames; J. E. Angle, Wailuj A. V. Newland, Ngatca; G. N. Dent, Paeroa; W. Mooney, Waihi; J. C. Prescott, Hikuai. Amendments. Applications for amendments to existing licenses were granted as follows:—S. 11. Wright, I'uriri; C. A. Stembridgc and Sons, Paeroa; W. J. Kirk, Whitianga; J. F. Kerby, Turua; R, Aitkenhead, Waihi; J. P. Shelley, Ngatea; Adams Bros., Waitakaruru; D. S. Waugh, Ngatea. Transfers. Transfers of licenses were granted from N. A. Mitchell to J. E. Kerby, Turua; K. B. Thomas to P. E. Thomas, Puriri. Increase in Fares. The Paeroa-Waihi Transport Company made application for an increase in fares for workers' weekly tickets from 3/6 to 5/6. The application was opposed by the Waihi Miners' Union and the Engineers' Union. On behalf of the company, Mr. Cardeu gave the amount of increase in the cost of running the service, and maintained the increase in fares asked was fair and reasonable. After hearing the objections, tho chairman said he quite recognised thero had been some increase in costs, but he desired to go further into the matter before giving his decision. He- woulcl adjourn the matter in the meantime.
