FOND OF DOGS.

HON. W. E. PARRY. INCIDENT NEAE GISBOKNE. Acquaintances of the Hon. W. E. Parry know that the sight of a good sporting dog, or a game bird, invariably attracts the attention of the Minister under any circumstances. Accompanying a settler of a recent roadside deputation at Mangatuna, Gisbornc, was a black and white setter. "That should be a fine fellow afield," remarked Mr. Parry, as the dog licked his hand. "Yes," replied the settler, "but the birds have left us." Stepping into bis car later the Minister found to his surprise the dog squatting on the floor of the car ready to undertake any journey. "The sagacity of a dog—a sport for a sport!" said the owner, helping the Minister to coax the dog from the car.
