N.Z. BUTTER RISES. Now At 120/-. HIGHEST FOR YEAR. PRICES FOR CHEESE STEADY. [Special to "Star"] AUCKLAND, Aug. 7. The firm trend on the London butter market continues, and New Zealand top price has moved up to 120/- per cwt., the same quotation as for Danish and 2/- above Australian. This is the highest price recorded for the present year, and is slightly above the rate ruling at this time in 1936. Cheese values remain steady at 72/to 74/-, well above the figures ruling a year ago, namely, 61/- to 63/-. The basic rates fixed under the guaranteed price scheme, subject to quality differentials, are 117/3 for butter and 63/7 for cheese per cwt., f.0.b., New Zealand currency. The equivalent landed prices in London are approximately 105/- to 106/- for butter and 60/6 for cheese. The guaranteed price for butter is equal to 12.565 d per lb, f.0.b., and the cSrrent London quotation is equivalent to approximately 14.11 d per lb, f.0.b., New Zealand ports.

A Press Association message sent from London is as follows:—"The butter market is firm. Danish: 120/- per cwt. Choicest salted, New Zealand 119/- to 120/-, Australian 118/-. Unsalted, New Zealand 121/-, Australian 120/-. Cheese is steady. New Zealand, wliite 74/- to 74/6, coloured 71/to 72/-."
