LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The Clock Tower. Considerable interest is being evinced amongst the community regarding .the proposed coronation clock and tower for Thames. One business man has already offered a substantial donation if the matter is seriously considered. The feeling is growing that the suggestion is a sound one, and that Thames should “do the thing handsomely,” Armistice Day Observance. next, the 18th anniversary of Armistice Day, will be recognised in the usual manner in Thames by the observance of two minutes’ silence. Sunday next in some of the Thames churches has been set aside as Armistice Sunday, and appropriate services will be conducted. At the Methodist Church a United Services parade will be held in the evening.
Street Appeals Condemned. A strong condemnation of street appeals was made by a member of the Riccarton Borough Council the other evening. He said he did so on principle, because soon “every Tom, Dick and Harry society” would be seeking to collect. Recently the Thames Borough Advisory Committee decided to place collections in Thames under stricted control by a grouping system.
