Birth Of Triplets.
NURSE'S JOKE.
ADVERTISEMENT IN PAPER
"MR. AND MRS. ROMNEY."
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, Oct. 30.
A singular case came before Mi'. W. 11. Freeman, S.M., yesterday, when a maternity nurse, Sarah Watt, of Nightcaps, was charged with sending to be published in tho "Southland Times" an advertisement, announcing the birth of triplets at the Nightcaps maternity hospital, the advertisement reading: "To Mv and Mrs. Romney, two sons and a daughter; all well." The police stated that the defendant had two pet sheep at the maternity home, one of which gave birth to triplets, and defendant thought it would be a good idea to advertise her home. Hence the notice to the paper.
Counsel said defendant had apologised. It was only a joke, and defendant had not the slightest idea that she was committing a breach. Detective-Sergt. Thomson: There is no suggestion of any ulterior motive. She meant it as a joke, but the joke is on her. Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay 10/~ costs.
