MATERNITY CONTEST
APPROACHING A CLIMAX. CANADIAN'S ECCENTRIC WILL., If Mrs. Martin Kenny, little FrenchCanadian woman who married a Toronto Irishman, wins the £IOO,OOO "Stork Derby," her first act, she says, will be to honour Charles Vance Millar, eccentric Toronto lawyei', whose bizarre will launched the maternity contest ten years ago. She will hold a "fitting-" ceremony at Millar's grave, with a band present and all her children there. Then she will do "something for the poor." By the terms of Millar's will the due of his estate, about £IOO,OOO, was left to the woman who would give birth to the most children in Toronto in the tenyear period following his death. That period expires October 31 of this year. Mrs. Kenny claims leadership in the race, with twelve births in the ten years and another expected before the end of October. Foremost among the competitors are Mrs. Grace Bagnato, with nine children in the ten years, Mrs. Arthur Timleck, with ten, Mrs. John Nagle, nine, and three others each with eight.
There is little doubt that the curious will will find its way into the courts after October, and upon the judges will be placed an unique responsibility.
