ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP RACE.
ANDREWS FIRST HOJVIE
The annual 42-iuiles chajnpionship race from Thames |o Paeroa and return, for j;he Ensor and Audrey Cups, was decided on Saturday, a fair field facing the starter. The ■conditions overhead were fine, but rt'he riders encountered a severe westerly wind. The four scratch men rode well Until Jones W4S forced to retire wi£h chain trouble. The remaining three gradually wore down the limit men, catching t'heni at all the riders reaching the Puriri Hall together.
From then an Andrews ftnd Jamieson, by mutual pacing, forged ahead and crossed the line in that order. Result:—- ■
D. Andrew, 4min, 1; R. Jamieson, scr, 2; M. Cowie, 4min, 3. Fastest time was made by R. Jamieson, 2 hours 2 minutes 9 seconds. This race brought to a close the road-racing season in this district, and the Fisher Shield for the points championship was won by R. Jamieson with 50 points, S. Jones being runner-up with 40 points.
A special meeting of the club is to take place at the residence of the secretary, Mary Street, on October 1, at 7 p.m.
