First Offender Fined. A statutory first offender for drunkenness appeared in the Police Court this morning and was convicted and fined 10/-. High School Resumes. The Thames High School pupils will resume for the final term tomorrow. Classes in shorthand and typewriting will toe continued to-mor-row evening. Basketballers’ Record. The Thames-Hauraki basketball representatives have a splendid record for the present season. ,So far they "have played 20 matches, won 18 and lost two. The B representatives have taken part in 14 matches and have been defeated only once. Delegates to Conference. Over 50 delegates of the British Chambers of Commerce are on board the Aorangi, which left Vancouver on Wednesday for Auckland. The conference will open in Wellington early in October. The Wrong Place. A well-known Wanganui St. John Ambulance official was summoned from his bed early one morning last week to find an ambulance van outside his residence. The attendant said He had called for the obstetrical case. The owner of the house hastened to assure him that his services were not required, and that he had called at the wrong place. “Gift” of Silver. Somebody has made a gift to the Canterbury Education Board. A day or so ago a large parcel was found on the 1 counter of the inquiry window. There was no explanation of whence it came or why. Removal of substantial wrappings disclosed a large canteen of cutlery worth from 10 to 15 guineas. No explanation of the gift being forthcoming, it was handed to the police.
