Barefaced Theft.

WAREHOUSE ENTERED.: IN BROAD DAYLIGHT, SENT FOR SENTENCE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 7. Having been observed by a. young couple late on the afternoon, of Saturday, August 20, to climb a tiro escape and descend after breaking and entering a warehouse of Ross and Glendining, in broad daylight, Robert John Dias, aged. 34, a window cleaner, was- charged in the Police Court • to-day. with breaking-, and. entering and theft of goods valued at £l7.- ’ -

The principal witness was'-Arthur Lindon Hedges,. ..who said, jvas standing by a motor-car in Elliott Street with a friend, Miss Dorothy Mitchell, when he saw accused and another man leave the back of an hotel and walk to the warehouse. He accused climb the fire escape, Avhicli he left on the first floor. Later he climbed out of a window and came down to the footpath, carrying goods to the back of the hotel. Miss Mitchell left the car and - called the police from Queen Street.

The police gave evidence of finding goods in Dias’ shirt, and also a suitcase containing goods behind a door of the hotel. Dias was arrested, and on the way to the police station tried to escape. Accused plealed guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. - r -
