EAST COAST RAILWAY. AN EARLY ANNOUNCEMENT. (By Telegraph.—rress Association.) WELLINGTON, April 20. Since the announcement was made that the Government intended to proceed at the.earliest moment with tho completion of the Napier-Gisborno railway, the Minister for Public Works, Mr. R, Semple, has been swarmed with applications from men wanting work on the job.

The Minister said that he was not yet in a position to state when a start would be made with the work, but an early announcement would be made.

.Regarding applications from men wanting to go on the job, he said they had been made to him in thousands. He coukl not say exactly luAv many applications there were, but 5000 would probably be somewhere near the mark.
