Obituary.

MBS. MARY ANNE TAYLOR

Thames oldest resident, Mrs. Mary Anne Taylor, died on Friday last at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. D. Redwood, lvaraka Road, in her 96th. year. Born in England in 1842, Mrs. Taylor as a young woman went with tier parents to South Africa, where, she later married Mr. 11. Taylor, who was a fellow passenger on the ship. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor arrived at Auckland ill 1364 and settled at Wajpipi, pear Waiijku, When the Thames district was declared a goldfield Mr. ami Mrs. Taylor were among the first settlers, and with their young family lived in a tent on the rise above Rol]pstou Street, later removing to Irishtown Hill, where she had resided for the last 411 years. At the time of her death Mrs. Taylor was the oldest member of S|. George’s Anglican Church. Her husband predeceased her 23 rears ago. Two sons and three daughters survive her. The sons are Mr. H. Taylor (Mnngere) and Mr. J. T. Taylor (Thames). The daughters are Mcsdamos \V. Newman and W. Cliff (Auckland) and Mrs. D- Redwood (Thames). Thera are 43 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren. About two year* ago Mrs. Taylor took an extended flight round Thames in an aeroplane.

AIRS. EDITH JAMES.

A vcr£ old resident of Thames, Mrs. Edith James, died at the Thames Hospital early yesterday morning at the advanced age of 91. Born, at Helston, Cornwall, she arrived with her late husband, Mr. W. James, in the ship Warwick in January, 1875, and came to Thames, where her husband took up goldmining. She was born the same day as the late Queen Alexandra and married the same year. Iler husband predeceased her eight years ago. Mr. and Mrs. James celebrated their diamond wedding twelve years ago. For a great many years Mrs. James was an ardent worker for the Thames Methodist Church. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. F. Trenwith (Auckland) and her adopted daughter, Mrs. S. C. Muir, of Thames.
