PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS. DISPOSAL OF THE SPOIL. The Public Works Department',s suction dredge, which arrived at Thames from Paeroa yesterday afternoon under contract to the Thames Harbour Board for the purpose of dredging the berthage and channel, is at present berthed at the Burke Street wharf, .-while the necessary pipe lines are being assembled to carry the spoil across the wharf to the northern side of the reclamation area.

Eleven barges are being used t( carry the pipes from the dredge t< the shore. Dredging operations ml he begun within a few days.
