WAITAKARURU. Arrangements for the Women’s Institute picnic *on January 16 were finalised at a meeting presided over by Mrs. C. Coxhead. Miss Savage won the guessing competition, and Mrs. G. Paton, for the choicest llower, judged by popular vote. A donation of £l, the proceeds of a recent flag 500 afternoon, is to be presented to the Auckland Mayor’s Crippled Children’s Fund. The birthday of the Institute is to be celebrated in February, Mesdames Coxhead, Poland, Weir and Pacey being appointed the entertainment committee. NGATEA. The Loyal Ngatea Lodge of Oddfellows met at the hall on Monday evening, the N.G., Lro. A. Waite, presiding, to celebrate its sixth anniversary of establishment. A short toast list honoured was as follows: “The King”; “The Manchester Unity,” proposed by P.G Bro. E. Jackson and responded to by Bro. D. Diulding; “The Ngatea Lodge,” proposed by Bro. G. A. Furby and responded to by P.G. Bro. ri. Waite; “The Ladies,” proposed by the N.G., Bro. Waite, and responded to bv Sister E. Jackson. The lady members provided a dainty supper, a feature of which was the birthday cake.

At the formal business meeting of the Lodge Sister Jackson’s suggestion for the holding of a grand llannel dance next month was enthusiastically adopted. Officers installed in the group at Netherton last month tendered their thanks for the honour.
