Rifle Shooting.
THE TRENTHAM MEETING. INCREASED ENTRIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association). TRENTHAM, March 1. Two hundred marksmen from all parts of the Dominion are competing at the annual meeting of the National Rifle Association, which opened at Trentham this morning in fine weather. This is the first time since 1930 that the entries have reached the 200 mark. The competitors include a woman, Mrs. T. Hill, of Whangarei, who also took part in last year's meeting.
Shooting commenced with a match of seven rounds at 300yds., 600yds. and 800yds. This match does not count for the championship belt, but gives competitors a try-out over the short and long ranges.
The compulsory service matches will be fired this afternoon.
The opening match was won by L. W. Greatbah (Tapakau) with 103 out of a possible 105". H. Simmonds (Auckland) finished second. The winner in the B grade was C. B. Benton (Okato) with 100.
