GOODS BY ROAD.
THROUGH SERVICE LICENSES. Objections From Thames. TRANSPORT AUTHORITY. DECISIONS DEFERRED.' (By Telegraph—Press Association). AUCKLAND, Nov. 28. The No. 2 Transport Licensing Authority has to make an important decision concerning the licensing of long-distance goods services, but before it can reach its decision its members must do some hard-read-ing. When the Authority visited various districts in its area, decisions were made in all locai cases, but through-service applications were deferred to enable final submissions to be made in writing. This morning when the Authority met, the chairman stated that it would take more than a day to read them all, and therefore adjourned the sittings. One of the applicants asked if they could add to their submissions, but the chairman declined to allow it. He said the Authority, having heard evidence, could have made its decision, but as the question of renewing or refusing licenses was of grave importance to the operators, it had been decided to allow them to make final submissions.
Seventeen operators sought renewals of licenses and objections were offered by the Railway Board, four County Councils, Thames and Hamilton Carriers' Associations, Thames Harbour Board and Northern Steamship Company.
