A striking example of the methods employed in the Ford Motor Works to ensure the utmost efficiency was given by a member of the Canterbury Advertising Club during a discussion on modern business management. On one occasion, he said, tho company ordered one million dollars' worth of machine tools from England. However, in the short period between the placing of tho order and its fulfiment, a further improvement was made in the particular tools by an American firm. Immediately, the company placed a similar order with the American firm, and though the English tools were paid for they remained unused and were regarded as scrap.
