Obituary.

MR. CHARLES A. READ. The death occurred at Braemar private hospital yesterday afternoon, after a brief illness, of Mr. CharlesAlexander Read, eldest son' of the late Mr. John Read, of Thames. Deceased was 55 years of age. The late Mr. Read was born at Thames, and after receiving his education at the Parawai public school and the Thames High School, was apprenticed to T. and S. Morrin and Co., Auckland, and later was employed by Messrs. E. Porter and Co., ironmongers, Auckland. After several years with the latter firm he returned to Thames and assisted his father in his timber and ironmongery business at Grahamstown. On the death of Mr. John Read, the two sons, Messrs. Charles and Arthur Read, took over, the business at Shortland, which they have conducted for many years. Deceased is survived by his wife and three young children.
